~tips tuesday~

Tiny Sweet Peaz

 Try scheduling your photo shoot around your baby’s naps and feeding times. Suggested items to bring are a large baby blanket in white, cream, or a gender-oriented color (textures make for interesting photos),  wipies and/or burp clothes in case of spitting up, toys that they like, attention getters (noise makers)  I will probably photograph some of your little one’s pictures in his or her’s diaper, however feel free to bring an outfit or two and accesories (i.e. hairbows, hats) for variety in your pictures. A favorite stuffed animal or toy can also be incorporated into some of the shots. I also like to include mommy and daddy in the pics, so wear coordinating clothing (whites or neutrals are preferred). And don’t forget the pacifier!

 CHEESE!

Child / Family Sessions

Make sure your little guys and gals are well fed before the session and bring along snacks to curb hunger pangs. Snacks that DO NOT make messes. Dry cereal, pretzels.. etc. At this stage your child is a bundle of energy and probably doesn’t like to sit still. No worries, I prefer tagging along after them and capturing them at play in a totally natural, unposed environment. When photographing a family with little ones, its VERY important to have everyone looking and smiling at me—READY for the shot- I will get the little one to look and smile- but I need YOU to be ready when I get it…otherwise, you will be looking at the baby and they will be just right. Be creative and feel free to bring along props such as a kiddie-sized chair, tricycle, favorite toys, blanket to lay on the grass and so on. Two or three outfits with accessories are suggested, or outfits with layering options. If a family session, while not everone has to wear the same colors, make sure your outfits don’t clash. Bring bubbles, noise makers… may not hurt to even bring a “prize” for the little ones to be rewarded after a great session!! Trust me, I want your session to be relaxed, successful and most of all, FUN!

 Family

Couple Sessions

Whether newly engaged or married for 12 years, couple sessions are the pefect way to capture the love you both share. Decide on the look and feel of your session and dress accordingly. For a more casual, relaxed feel, a pair of jeans and nice top are perfect. For a romantic, vintagey feel, a dress and heels for her and slacks or jeans with a button-down shirt for him are encouraged, barefoot is an option too! Choose clothing in complimentary colors and feel free to bring outfit changes or layering pieces (i.e. jackets, hats, scarves, jewelry, hair accessories). Again, be creative: choose a location that is significant to both of you and feel free to bring along props that signify your personalities. Into music? Bring your instrument or Ipod. Coffee lovers can bring their favorite mugs. An outdoor loving couple can bring a picnic basket, bottle of wine or juice and wine glasses. Or how about an old bicycle? There, do we have your creative juices flowing now? Be ready to smooch alot, hold hands and display all-around mushiness!

 In Love

Don’t worry about that bump or scratch.. most flaws can be corrected, self conscious about that smile? I can whiten teeth or sometimes fill in a gap! That wraps it up for TipTuesday! Just remember, its all about having fun and being yourself…relax, be natural and SMILE!

~what to wear Wednesday~

As my fall portrait schedule fills up,

I keep on getting asked the same questions “what should we wear?” “do you have any suggestions on clothing?”

And I am so glad I’m asked! Your portraits are important to you and an investment you make to cherish for a lifetime. They will reflect not only what you look like today, but also the era, the generation, and your family’s unique personality.

I strongly suggest the use of color in my outdoor portraits as I find the end result much more eye-catching then the traditional look of everyone matching. There is a HUGE difference between coordinating your outfit with complimenting colors compared to everyone in all white shirts and jeans or all black shirts with khakis. Don’t get me wrong, these outfits are truly classic, but if different & modern is what you are looking for… add some color!  When picking colors that compliment and styles that coordinate with each other, I believe it creates depth and separation between the family members, while still weaving them together to create a cohesive look. Check out this complete ensemble I found while searching online, perfect examples of the right way to dress for your session with me. (Old Navy)

Pink, black & white

My personal tip is always- choose 3 colors and mix match them up. This example is Pink, White & Black. Dont forget to accessorize!!  Hats, scarfs, necklaces, hair bows and/or ribbons.  I suggest one print, but try to stay away from stripes.

“The rarest thing in the world is a woman who is pleased with photographs of herself.”

~~~~~
Oh my word! How true is that?? You can’t imagine how often I hear the words.. “I hate taking pictures” – “I never take a good picture”— “I look horrible in pictures” The funny thing is that these same women, after I have taken their pictures, say “Oh my… I love it!”— “Look at me, I look great!”—- “I love my pictures!”
Now be honest… you know who you are and you know that I am telling it like it is. You are who you are and pictures reflect that. We all have flaws that we would love to change, but we all have great features that suit us just fine. My goal is to help to minimize the flaws and accentuate your best features. Most photographers don’t take the time to find out what you want and how you feel before sticking a camera in your face and snapping away. Some photographers just don’t have the “eye” for it.
This is actually the best part of being a photographer, to me. Seeing the shot before I even take it. Knowing just the right angle is most flattering, yet still capturing YOU as you really are. This is not only for us women, but children as well. What most damaging time in your life than being a kid that is made fun of because of being too tall, too freckled, too chubby? To top it all off, you have the pleasure of being reminded of this every time you look at the most unflattering “school picture” ever taken and it follows you thru life!  Then you end up being one of those adults that HATE having pics made of your self, there fore you have nothing to show your kids and/or grandkids for that matter. And tell me, who doesn’t long to have photos of their parents and/or grandparents in their younger years? See? Pictures are IMPORTANT and most important is to have pictures that you actually like seeing and sharing of you and your family.
  Ok, so with all of that being said……….. I will share with you a few pics from a session that I did very different from anything I have done in a long time. While these two felt too old, fat & ugly to have a photo session… I have to say that they were far from too old, fat and ugly and I can bet you that their kids and grandkids will absolutely cherish these for a very long time! Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Harris for letting me capture you both…
~back on the wagon~
Ok, so maybe I was never really “on the wagon”. But I used to be a really avid blogger. I find something I like & I stick with it….well, at least for a while….ok, so as long as it usually lasts. I was trying to keep up with blogging on myspace, posting sessions here, twittering along, facebooking it, my website, and fan page…. WHEW! I dont think I can really do it all…but I tried. Did I mention that I work full time and have 2 boys at home with 2 dogs and a cat?? Ok, so I was juggling a bit much. I dont myspace anymore, I am going to start back on my blogging and just incorporate it on here with my sessions… HA! kill 2 birds with one stone… now THAT I can do! My twittering? Well, facebook has a really nifty feature that automatically updates my twitter when I update my status on facebook….now, talk about best thing since sliced bread! I know.. I know, I am probably boring you to tears, I am pretty good at that. Trying to multi-task as usual. While I type this I am also editing, uploading, checking email, facebooking & waiting on the boys to get home from church. Oh, and I have a load of laundry in the washer to put in the dryer and need to start another load!~~~~~~> 20 minutes later- Put clothes in the dryer, started another load, boys are home and in the bath tub– Just finished 2 family sessions! Whew… I have accomplished quite a bit tonight. Gonna leave you all with a few pics to enjoy!
~Speaking of Miniature~
Just trying to catch up here on my session blogging….so please bear with me. First session I want to share with you was taken of a sweet 16 year old girl from Pennsylvania! Can you believe that she found me online and LOVED my work, so she did the only thing that would have seemed logical… She caught the first flight to Louisiana and off we went to the SunValley Miniature Horse Farm in Choudrant. Ok, dont believe me? Would you believe that she was a visiting niece of one previous session I did for little Ms. Alyssa a couple months back? Yeah, that is more like it! Anywho… Taylor was quite the country girl and it shows. She loved the farm and horses…it was BEAUTIFUL there and I will certainly be going back for more sessions! Thanks Mr & Mrs Waller!
Taylor
Now for Mr. Truett… this little bundle of joy was a first for Jamie and Sam. He was only 2 weeks old when I took these and soooo tiny! They grow way too fast and you know I am a sucker for boy mama’s…. My gosh, Jamie is back to work and Mr. Truett is going on nearly 4 months now! He is a big boy and just precious! We need to get another session with him now that he is in that really cute cooing and smiling stage… Enjoy this little man… he will be grown before you know it!
~Meet the Johnson family~
~mr and mrs dunlop~
I love these two! It was awesome shooting their engagements and I really enjoyed being a part of the wedding. Their families are the best & the memories will be around for years! I always say that no wedding is perfect… no matter how big or small.. something seems to happen. It just is. To start off with, Lindsey had to make a Wal-mart trip before arriving at the church & she locked her keys in her vehicle! Her bridesmaids were with her, so they were held up for about an hour! Then as the precious flower girl went down the aisle.. she made it about 1/4 of the way down …..all of her petals were on the floor, the basket is empty, she throws it on the floor and proceeds to lay out flat on her tummy in the petals on the floor and “swim” in them! As the doors open and the bride heads down the aisle, little miss never misses a beat! She continues to backstroke in the petals and what is Lindsey to do when she gets to her??? Well, the only thing a bride could do.. she stepped right over her and kept on going!! Yes, it was hillarious! I love this job… I really do!
Enjoy a little sample from the Dunlop family from Minden…
~blush & bashful~
I had the pleasure of shooting Whitney and Skylor’s wedding May 23 in Natchitoches Louisiana.
The picture-perfect small town featured in the Julia Roberts film Steel Magnolias is actually Natchitoches, La. Visitors and locals alike stroll along Front Street, a 33-block cobblestone thoroughfare in the historic landmark district. It is dotted on one side with vintage homes (and their wrought-iron balconies), churches, restaurants, and shops, and it overlooks CaneRiverLake on the other.
Her colors were pink, pink & more pink! It was beautiful and so was Whitney! She is the niece of a friend/co-worker of mine and was just the sweetest southern gal I have ever met… My husband, Robert went with me to help out and we had a great time with their family! Here are a few of my favorites from that special day. Hope you enjoy….
Whitney & Skylor “pic’d” most charming couple!
~cozumel~
Cozumel
Ok… so I have been MIA for a little bit. Yeah, I have to admit that Calgon took me away to Cozumel along with 3 of my friends. Unfortunately it brought me back way too soon! We did have a great time. Between the 4 of us we took well over 600 pics… of course a lot of those were duplicates, but they were all good. I really wanted to bring my good camera along with me, but I didn’t want the headache of taking care of it. I just used my trusty elcheapo point and click.
I want to thank all of you that took the time to vote for me as Best of Delta 2009. Was an honor just to have been nominated, not to mention still a big surprise! I have no idea how/who nominated me, but thanks!!! Be sure to get the August 2nd issue of the News Star.. they will have a special section announcing all nominees and of course the winners. I am anxious to see my “TwoPeaz” printed up like the big time… lol
Also, I am taking a plunge into radio advertisement with Star 101.9 beginning Monday July 27th, so be sure to tune in for the next 4 weeks to hear the “commercial” and try to win one of the 4 photo sessions that I am giving away! I am super excited about that!!
Enjoy the vacation pics and don’t forget to schedule your Senior 2010 session soon. The holidays will be upon us once again, sooner than you think. I will be running specials, so be on the look out!
~VOTE FOR ME, PLEASE!!~
I need your help!!! I know this is off the wall and a little sudden, but it really took me by surprise! Go to  Best of 2009 and vote for TwoPeazPhotography. The category is Best of Professional Services and service is photography. PLEASE spread the word, I have NO clue how businesses get in the running for this honor, but TwoPeaz made it and I would love to get as many votes as I can….. Thank you so much for helping me to get this far!
~stormey weather~
Courtney and I spent several hours in this crazy weather! What am I talking about you ask? A “be glamorous” session that we had a few weeks ago with a friend of mine, Stormey. She was a mess and you could tell she had alot of fun… not sure if she had as much fun as Courtney and I did. I cant even begin to tell you how many shots were taken between the two of us… waaayyyy too many to even edit! Honestly, there were not very many that even needed to be edited. Here are just a few that she would let me post…..there were so many more that were even better, if you can believe that! Thanks Stormey for a great night… hope your honey pie enjoys!
